Well....."Ya gotta break a few eggs to make an omelette I always say"
And thats just what I did today!
Fairly reasonable day out at Toodyay, sun was shining after a week of rain, looked pretty nice. The wind was a little breezy, but not so bad that launches would be a hassle.
I think most of the people there would attest it was a pretty trying affair with copperhead failures at an all time high!
I personally had about 4 or 5 failures with the attempts to launch my TLP SAAB and my TLP Gecko on F24W-7's and I eventually got the SAAB away only to fly extremely erratically into the ground breaking off fins in the process.
The flight of the day (at least for my money) was the Minie Magg drag race between Kev and myself on an I211W and an I218R respectively...I'm sure either MarkH or tantaris will post pictures and or video when they get the chance.
On to my disaster.....the Aerobee Hi 2 stage.....I had decided on a G80T-4 in the booster to an F52T-8 in the sustainer.
All the motors were set up and the minitimer was set for an ignition at 2 seconds after the G switch detected launch condition.
All was looking sweet on the pad, conditions favorable.
The booster lit and the bird got away and was flying very straight in the initial boost stage....but thats where it started to go wrong...failure to light the all important second stage after the alloted time frame.
The sustainer arched over into the death dive and plummeted to terra firma.
Diagnosis of failure is unknown at this time.
Future......build a new one ....faster...higher ...better!
Off the pad boosting nicely.
Still going strong
Bad dobbie!
